in recent years, the story has come under fire for being sexist, as many use this story to excuse rampant misogyny and oppression of women, both in the judeo-christian-muslim religions and in the world in general.
obviously, this is a view i do not share, or i pro'lly wouldn't paint and draw from this story. i was raised in a feminist and not particularly religious home, and only developed an interest in religion as an adult.
anybody who knows me is aware of exactly where i stand on using religion to promote oppression... suffice to say i don't like it, and leave it at that...
now don't worry, i'm not gonna bore you with my ideas about religion, sexism, politics and marriage (if you're interested, email me...), but whether this story and others in the Scripture are pure fiction, 100% true, or somewhere in between, there's a lotta wisdom buried in the story of the First Marriage...
