hip hopper (hip HOP er) n. a person who considers him- or herself a part of hip hop culture.

yoh! let me break it down to you... hip hop is not just "rapping" or a certain kind of beat, or style of dance.  it's a whole culture.  with its own way of moving, speaking, and thinking.  it's not just for black people, either!  from the beginning, there have been diverse kinds of people (different races, colors, and religions...) involved with this culture. at first people didn't acknowledge it.  they assumed it was a passing fad. now, hip hop is worldwide!  it's on your teevee, in your church and in your closet. it's here to stay.  so you may as well get used to it.

Mos Def made us all mad.  he released a long-awaited new album, BUT it was not the five-mic hip hop salvation we were hoping for.  what it was, we were not ready for: The New Danger was a blast of rap-rock brilliance!
